There are two types of skills in The Age of Decadence - combat skills and civil skills. Each skill level has a corresponding label:

- Unskilled
- Novice
- Apprentice
- Skilled
- Proficient
- Journeyman
- Adept
- Expert
- Master
- Grand Master[1]

Each level on combat skills gives a combat bonus. For example, leveling Dagger skill will give a slight bonus to critical hit. However, the adjacent bonus is only applied when your character uses the said weapon and not applicable to other weapons. It represents your character's increased proficiency with these weapons. In other words, someone who's very skilled with a dagger won't be able to use similar techniques when using a hammer or a spear.[2]
