Banner of House Daratan

House Daratan is a one of the greater Noble Houses that survived the Great War.

Once the largest and most influential faction, collecting tithes and levies in seven provinces and fielding over twenty legions, House Daratan was all but destroyed during the Great War. Now the extent of its domain is a single, crumbling town, Teron. Though to all appearances House Daratan has already been lowered into the grave, someone is gathering resources for one last fight, to either restore the Noble House to glory, or condemn it into oblivion for good.

Background[ | ]

House Daratan was born during the battle of Dar Attan, where Legatus Legionis[1] Tiberius Catulus, great ancestor, had shown the world the true meaning of courage. With less than a full legion, Catulus faced twenty thousand men and stood his ground.

After the battle, the Emperor himself named Catulus the Dux[2] per Dar Attan, calling him dux bellorum[3] - the dux of battles - the highest honour for a warrior.

Only a few hundred men survived the battle. the Emperor ordered them to rebuild the legion and gave it the name Darattan to commemorate the battle and Catulus's bravery."

Within a century, a humble House has become the most powerful and influential House. It was at the forefront of every war, every battle. Daratan legions had always stood their ground, no matter the odds, but the war with Qantari demons was unlike any other and had taken a large toll. It had sapped House strength and power. The first become the last.

Testimonials

It's a large, carefully restored document tracing the history of House Daratan throughout the centuries. Turns out the House owes its name to the battle of Dar Attan where a certain Legatus managed to defeat an army of 20,000 men with less than a full legion.

"What a foolish thing to ask, [PC]! I care because information is the most valuable and profitable commodity. I care because the Imperial Guards want nothing but power. The Noble Houses kept them in check for a long time, but they have been too preoccupied with fighting each other lately, which is why we have only three weakened Houses now - if you pretend that House Daratan is still a House - instead of the seven that survived the war. So, whatever it is the Guards are up to, I want to know. Surprises are bad for our business."

[charisma success] "Our House was born during the battle of Dar Attan, where Legatus Legionis Tiberius Catulus, our great ancestor, had shown the world the true meaning of courage.

"With less than a full legion, Catulus faced twenty thousand men and stood his ground. He could have retreated and waited for reinforcements, but cowards never accomplish anything. Catulus saw an opportunity and he took it. After the battle, the Emperor himself named Catulus the Dux per Dar Attan, calling him dux bellorum - the dux of battles - the highest honour for a warrior.

"Only a few hundred men survived the battle. Instead of disbanding them, the Emperor ordered them to rebuild the legion and gave it the name Darattan to commemorate the battle and my ancestor's bravery."

"It certainly is. Tiberius Catulus had set standards against which every Lord of this House has been measured. Within a century, a humble House had become the most powerful and influential House. We were at the forefront of every war, every battle. Daratan legions had always stood their ground, no matter the odds, but the war with those Qantari demons was unlike any other and had taken a large toll. It had sapped our strength and power. The first had become the last."
